intro

GM!

  • A lot to go over this week. We’ll get some quick hits about things that have been happening in the ENS space, plus the big news about Shopify.

  • Sad that Budweiser didn’t do anything with beer.eth for the Super Bowl. Seemed like they were hinting at it, but didn’t come to pass. Hopefully next year!

  • We’ve got two new initiatives for ENS HQ to introduce, so read on!

Our goal at ENS HQ is to become the go-to brand for all things ENS. While we have a ton going on behind the scenes that we’re building, we have two things we’re ready to release that we’re super excited about. First:

ENS HQ Investment DAO

We started thinking about one of the big upcoming problems that will be common for many people who bought a ton of names last summer during the bull run. That is, what will they do when they have to renew 20/50/200 domains and they either can’t afford the renewals or just don’t want to due to the inherent risk of being so early to ENS domains?

We thought through this problem and think we’ve come up with a pretty innovative solution; that will benefit the DAO, the holder, and the wider community.

The solution:

  • an investment DAO in which long-term focused investors can pool money together to invest in names that are not valuable now but will be once ENS goes mainstream

  • ENS holders who have domains they think will be valuable in a couple of years, but no one wants to buy today can send them to the DAO, will renew them, post them for sale, and likely hold them for the next 2-4 years

  • when ENS goes mainstream, and the DAO sells the name for a profit, the original holder will get 25% of the sales price sent to them

Just because your domain isn’t selling today doesn’t mean it’s total garbage. It just means it’s too risky to buy today. But with investors who are specifically willing to bet on the long-term future of ENS, we can “buy” or renew and hold these domains and wait it out, whereas a regular investor may not be able to.

We will also be able to have more eyeballs in the future put on the domains we hold due to being a part of the ENS HQ brand and the visibility it gets through the newsletter, website, Twitter account, etc.

TLDR for ENS HQ DAO:

  • you can’t afford to renew domains that have long-term viability

  • you submit to the DAO to take it, renew it, hold it, and sell it

  • you get 25% of the sales price when sold

If this idea interests you as an investor in the DAO, or you want to submit some domains that we may want, reply to this email and let us know!

ENS HQ Discord

There are a few ENS-centered Discord servers out there, but most seem to have a big drawback from our perspective. A big one is that the most active seem to be focused on clubs within ENS, which is not good for the wider ENS community.

Most quality conversations are happening on Twitter, which is great. We love it there too. But we think having a Discord that is for any and everything ENS, where we can go much deeper and build relationships without ruining our timelines on Twitter, will be a fantastic addition to the community.

We also will have channels specifically for selling domains that will be curated extremely well. We want to make it easy to offer domains for sale or to give them to the DAO for future profit without tons of spam. This will be a work in progress, but we’re committed to making it as valuable as possible to the community.

TLDR for ENS HQ Discord:

Quick Hits

  1. Jack Butcher’s Checks NFT project is still the talk of NFT Twitter, even if the floor price has dropped.

The interesting thing about this project for us is that Jack bought checkmarks.eth for 0.09eth last week!

You can check his wallet and see that he owns a bunch of ENS names related to his various projects, as well as a 10k club domain. He’s one of us!

  2. ENS.Vision is now integrated with Opensea! You can now list one time on Vision, and it will also post it for sale on OS. More visibility and eyeballs on your names with only one listing! An article that explains it in more detail: Article

  3. The ENS subdomain name wrapper was tested and shown on a DAO call recently. Doesn’t seem like there is a recording, but good to know we’re getting closer.

  4. The ENS DAO sold 10k Ether ($15,564,800) for USDC. Smart to derisk from the price of Ether, as we saw many companies/DAOs lose 70%+ of their funds by keeping them all in volatile currencies. Although, as I’m writing this, the SEC just announced actions against Circle. Hopefully doesn’t affect the price of USDC.

  5. Someone let sixteen 999 Club domains expire. At a floor price of 15eth, they just lost 240eth, or $373,555. Max pain! Assumption would be that they either lost the keys or just forgot and didn’t check and realize they were expiring. Sad either way.

Shopify Integration with Sign-In with Ethereum

Huge adoption news this last week! Friday brought a significant development in the e-commerce world, with Shopify store owners now able to sell NFTs and allow log-ins through SIWE. This is a significant advancement for SIWE, ENS, Ethereum, and the Web3 ecosystem.

It is no surprise that Shopify is leading the way in this regard, with founder Tobi Lutke purchasing tobi.eth for 30eth over a year ago, demonstrating his awareness of the industry's trajectory and his desire to remain at the forefront of it.

This move is another milestone in the journey toward widespread adoption of crypto wallets and ENS domains, which is exciting to see.
